Liv Lurra 1 Haidtial Review - Women's Mountain Bike
The Liv Lurra is a fun and affordable bike with industry-standard parts, making this bike very upgradable. That means if you can't afford to pay an arm and a leg for your next bike, the Lurra 1 will allow you to have fun right away, and give you the option to upgrade the wheels, fork, or other parts later on, if you wish to. Watch the whole video to learn more about the type of rider this bike is best for!

2023 Juliana Furtado Review - Women's Mountain Biking
Переглядів 7 тис.Рік тому
This is a long term review of the Juliana Furtado / Santa Cruz 5010. Biggest changes: -It's longer -Mullet wheel pairing (29" in front and 27.5" in back.) -Additional travel in the fork making this a 130/140mm travel bike. She's still playful but as you can imagine, these major changes have grown her up a bit. She's got a more serious edge on the downhills but she still knows how to have fun. A...

      My 11 y/old son is 4'11 and bought him a 29er hardtail, he raced xc a month ago and struggled with the 24in tire bike, he easily beat his best race time today during 7 or so laps we did at the same place(just training) there was a technical section which he struggled on during his race (had to come off the bike 2 or 3 times) today he never had an issue at that section. I got a Liv Lurra Size L 177cm male. He got Marlin Team 1 size S( a bit big for him for now but no issues), mine is a better featured bike with a 150mm dropper but found it lumpy on the xc kids course. It is however nice on our green/blue trail. The head angle definitely more slacker than his Marlin 66 vs 67deg so Liv Lurra definitely around 65deg head angle, I found it very very easy to get used to coming from an old geo hardtail, I however have found the huge space between the downtube and front axle causes the front wheel to be all the way forward on the Thule top ride roof bike carrier, drove with it for 2 hours mounted on the roof and was ok.

    Hi there. Thanks for this review! I'm looking for a hardtail for my beginner daughter who is 4'11" and will likely only get to under 5'4" so I don't think I want a 26" but she's petite and light at 82 lbs currently. If the head tube angle was adjusted do you think the xs 27.5 would be suitable for a beginner her size? TIA!! Melody

    "will it fit a burrito?" girl is asking the right questions 😂 Was able to demo one of these bikes recently on a decent trail but it was on the East coast and super rainy. Totally agree with you. You feel super stable after a drop even in damp conditions. I didn't slip on any wet roots or wet rocks and as a beginner on a moderate trail, that says a lot. This bike made a beginner feel safe comfortable and confident on a moderate mountain bike trail in less than ideal conditions.

    Thankyou for this video. I had never even considered things such as brake levers being designed around larger hands/longer fingers. I’ve secretly purchased a Liv Tempt 27.5 for my wife, size small for her 5’6” height and I couldn’t believe how difficult it was to find a bike that would fit her fairly average size. I’ll show her this video after I’ve gifted her the bike.

    I just surprised my wife with a new ibis ripmo af size small. She's 5'4" with a 30" inseam and complaining about fitment. Just stumbled on your review. Do you think she'd benefit from the medium?

    • @dustybettymtb
      @dustybettymtb 2 місяці тому

      She's right on the edge between a medium and small. I think if she likes writing really steep stuff she might benefit from a medium, but for a lot of trail riding, a small might be great. I might even size down on this depending on where I was riding.

    Love the vespers. Had them pre-ordered 1 year before release. I h8 noisey bikes… I wanna hear the nature. As for tyres, I recommend the Italian brand Vittoria with Martello on the front and Agarro on the back. I use this combo, as it’s fast rolling / semi light / good grip in wet/dry. Bonus: Not many ride them so they (in my country in EU) are cheaper then the “big dogs”.

    I also have Ibis S35 hoops with Berd spokes with the Onyx Vesper on my Ripmo, and I have a Berd TR30 wheel set on my Rocker. As I'm sure you already know, it was a much more noticeable upgrade on the hardtail. The Ripmo can make due with whatever. It's got a lot of tire volume, and a lot of suspension under it, but it did benefit bigtime from the increase in hub engagement. The stock Ibis logo hub was pretty sloppy. The soft engagement is fantastic. I'd ditch that rear Assegai, and run an Aggressor back there. The Assegai is just to slow rolling for a rear tire when you're earning your elevation.

  • @mikej1348
    @mikej1348 4 місяці тому

    Depending on how much you ride the hardtail, I would put the berd spokes/wheelset on that bike. I run plus tires on my hardtail with lower psi and it really helps on small and big hits. I imagine it would do the same as the berd spokes on your bike. For tires I run big knobs on the front (DHR2) and faster rolling (Rekon, Bontrager XR, Specialized, or whatever is on sale😂) I just got back from Sedona. The trails are incredibly fun. I can’t wait to come back next Spring.

If you wanted super fast rolling forkaster upfront and a rekon exo+ out back is a super fun big bike combo for the desert. Those are beautiful hubs. Enjoyed this video. Was neat to hear you talk about the impact these had on your ride and how you could feel the difference going over rocks. Q: do you run inserts? Q: what psi do you run? Parker is same weight as you and runs 19 psi with her bikes. One has inserts one doesn’t. She gets bounced a bit on her XC hardtail which has inserts. Hello to Hardtail and LD

    • @dustybettymtb
      @dustybettymtb 4 місяці тому

      I don't run inserts. It's just extra weight I like to avoid. I run 21psi in my rear tire and 18 or 19 in the front tire. I don't any problems with pinch flats at that pressure. Occasionally I'll increase my psi by 2 or so if I'm worried about sharp rock.

    The lack of noise is my favorite part of the Onyx hubs. I had I9's and the sound gets annoying. Engagement was practically the same. The downside to the Onyx is when you catch up to slower riders they don't hear you coming a 1/2 mile away.

      I am running Bontrager hubs and they are too loud for my liking, and they aren't nearly as loud as I9 hubs lol. I have been looking to pick up a pair of Onyx hubs to have laced onto my hoops, just have to find a local builder for them which seems to be a needle in a haystack right now.

      My local bike shop put a grease in my Hydra hubs and they are not noisy. I would love to feel the difference with the soft engagement of the Onyx hubs.

      Thank for a great and informative video. How does the soft engagement of the Onyx hud compare to the Hydra hub?

      So true! I love the engagement and peaceful silence but I have to announce myself a lot... it's worth it though!🤘

    I’m also a smaller rider, ride an Ibis Mojo. Wonder if those wheels would be good for my bike too.

      Definitely upgrading to onyx vespers is amazing in techy terrain! I think I'm going to try these wheels on a hardtial next because I think the ride quality of the berdspokes will be even more pronounced than on FS.

    Use the R.A.D. method of measuring yourself for bike size. It's a way more tailored method then manufacturer recommendations. When it doubt pick smaller. If needed add longer stem, higher riser bar. I'm 6' on a medium. I find the reach often too long on a large where my height is mostly in my legs.

      I think the rad method has its place, but it also depends on which MTB discipline you are looking at. For example, I would ride a shorter XC bike than an enduro bike. That's because I'm looking to take advantage of different geo strengths and ride different kinds of trails.

      @@dustybettymtb I think the RAD measurement is best suited to riding styles that involve more standing. You do need a shorter/longer reach to make up steeper/slacker head tubes. But RAD is more about the build then the frame alone.

    I just bought a 2023 Rocky Instinct C30 for less than $3K delivered to my door. Didn't really need a bike, but could not pass. Crazy you like the cutting edge bikes and Steve keeps it as simple as he can w bikes. I know he rides and owns FS bikes too... he can't resist.

      Ha ha, yeah. I get Steve's craving for elegance and simplicity. New is fun too though, right?!
